St. Augustine 450th Commemoration Commission Announces Discover First America: Legacies of La Florida
Program offers community a Passport to Exploration
The 450th Commemoration Commission’s free seven-part series—kicking off
November 2 at the General Assembly meeting to be held at 5:30 p.m. and
continuing through May 2010 at the Flagler College Auditorium—will give
audiences an exciting chance to be experts in the city’s rich history.
Armed with First America Passports to Exploration, audience members
become modern day explorers on a quest to unearth St. Augustine’s
multicultural history. As they “travel” from program to program, they
document their journey of discovery with passport stamps unique to each
event. At the series’ end, those with passports stamped with each
program seal will be “certified” 450th ambassadors and hosts, as well
as have a limited edition souvenir. Passports will be distributed at
the November 2nd community meeting.
The First America program series is presented by the St. Augustine
450th Commemoration Commission, in partnership with Flagler College and
the City of St. Augustine, and is made possible, in part, by a Florida
Humanities Council grant. The series will offer entertaining and
enlightening programs on St. Augustine’s important role in the
historical and cultural development of the United States. St. Augustine
is First America.
All First America series programs will be held at the Flagler College
Auditorium, 14 Granada Street, St. Augustine, unless otherwise stated.
All programs begin at 7 p.m. at Flagler College Auditorium, 14 Granada St.
