Jazz ABZ: An A to Z Collection of Jazz Portraits by Paul Rogers Tuesday July 06 2010

Artist Paul Rogers teamed with legendary jazz musician Wynton Marsalis to create the book Jazz ABZ, which highlights through poetry jazz greats from A (Louis Armstrong) to Z (Dizzy Gillespie). Each portrait and poem is evocative of the particular musician’s sound, and each work of art alludes to song titles, artifacts, and other markers of the time, including artistic references to well-known artists who were particularly inspired by jazz music. This exhibit will also include selected poems by Wynton Marsalis and is a must-see for jazz fans and poets of all ages.

Classes will include warm up techniques, artistic games, lessons on theatrical concepts and movement complimented with intense rehearsal. Each week will vary in programming.Performances at the completion of each camp.

Students will participate in the development of historical presentations relating to the history of St.Augustine.Performances at the completion of camp.

Students will make musical instruments and incorporate their art into a presentation at the completion of each week.

Nationally known poet Matthew Hernandez leads three themed nights of spoken word, music and performance, celebrating jazz music, musicians and poetry. Hernandez is a writer, actor and poet who has been a guest speaker/performer for the PGA, Wutang Clan, WJCT, NPR, The Miami Poverty Conference, along with numerous news features, various internet podcast and radio programs.

You'll think you stepped backed into time, as the Any Old Port Tent of the Sons of the Desert will be showing Classic Cartoons, Original Soundies ("Music Videos" of the 1940's), Classic Movie trailers, Our Gang (the Little Rascals), Laurel and Hardy films and more. They're now having their monthly meeting at three locations (conveniently located in St. Augustine and Jacksonville).
