Marathon/Half-Marathon Training Program: Advanced Session Saturday July 24 2010
7:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Event Type: Music
Cost:
The program is designed to help average people of all skill levels and ages to complete a 5k, half- or full-marathon. Even the most out of shape and inactive individuals can complete one at the end of the training period by adhering to Jeff’s run/walk approach to training. This approach advocates establishing a run/walk ratio based upon a runner’s predicted pace per mile that will enable him/her to go the distance while remaining healthy and injury free.
Program features include:
- Group support structure for training.
- Set training schedule.
- Expert advice on running techniques, gear, nutrition, and injury prevention.
- Pace Group Leader opportunities for experienced runners.
Last year, 89 individuals registered for the program and I’m proud to say that all 50 completed it and the target race. Throughout the season, we covered more than 272 miles together. Nine of the 2009 alumni are returning this season as Pace Group Leaders in order to help others achieve their fitness goals.
For the 2010 season, I’m offering two separate programs,:
- A “Getting Started” program geared towards helping individuals build up to running/walking three-miles before beginning the marathon training program. Program kick off event will be June 12 at 7:00 am at Lighthouse Park. We will begin by run/walk 1 mile and target the Bridge of Lions 5K on July 17. We will continue to train through July 31, allowing the Getting Started group to share their training experience with the half-marathon/marathon group!
- A 30-week marathon training program kicking off July 24 at 7am at Lighthouse Park. Program will culminate in the team running the 26.2 with Donna The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer in Jacksonville on February 13, 2011.
