Joan Tasca Teaches Oil or Acrylic Painting All Levels at SJCC
October 01 2009 Thursday
Event Type: Art
Cost: $140
Joan Tasca, painter and art instructor, is teaching her Fall Session at the Art Advocate, St Johns Cultural Council, 76B San Marco, downtown St. Augustine, FL. She has taught K-12, college level, and adult education. Her formal training and experience give her abundant resources necessary to give students what they need to learn to draw or paint. She attended Moore College of Art and Philadelphia College of Art’s youth art programs, and holds a B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Delaware, received certification in Art Education from The University of the Arts, and attended Tyler School of Art. Her work has won awards and is in private collections.
Tasca teaches students to draw or paint, by teaching them the importance of working from actual situations, to “see” what is in front of them. This is important especially in the beginning. Whether they interpret it as realism or abstraction is personal style, but seeing details and colors that they couldn’t see before always amazes the students. She says it’s great to watch her students re-discover the world around them. Methods of instruction include demonstrations, lectures, critiques, student production in class and home projects. Private lessons are available for youth and adults.
Thursdays, September 17th thru October 22nd. Oil or Acrylic Painting, All Levels: 9 – noon. Beginners will learn color theory, tools and techniques. Intermediate and Advanced students will refine skills, learn new ones, and work on personal style.
$140 fee (each course) is due by September 12th. Classes are six weeks, three hours . Class size is limited. Call (904) 794-2594 for materials and to register.

Art of Teaching Lecture Series at MOCA in Jacksonville
October 01 2009 Thursday
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Event Type: Art
Cost:
UNF Art and Design professors Paul Ladnier and Emily Arthur Douglass will conduct a lecture at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, a cultural resource of UNF, related to their works currently on display. The Art of Teaching lecture series augments the UNF Art and Design Faculty Exhibition at MOCA Jacksonville through Jan. 3, 2010. The lectures present the context in which each participating artist’s works on exhibition were created.
Ladnier’s love for the texture of paint and its range of saturated colors will be discussed by this artist who is equally gifted at painting a landscape or an abstract. Douglass draws from nature in her experimental printmaking techniques. Birds, moths and snakes are among the motifs she uses to comment on the fragility of our existence and the rhythms and cycles of natural processes. For more information about this lecture series, visit http://www.mocajacksonville.org or call 366-6911.
