Second Saturday Plant Sales always feature plants that are unusual and hard to find. Choose from a large selection of air, bromeliads, butterfly, cactus, ferns, gingers, herbs, natives, orchids, succulents and ti plants. Many of the plants were propagated and grown in the park by volunteers. All proceeds benefit the park for enhancement of current and new facilities. Historic weapons demonstrations will be presented at the Castillo de San Marcos each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, & 3:30.  Rangers and volunteers in Spanish colonial period uniforms will demonstrate the weapons and relate the experiences of the colonial Spanish soldier of 1740s St. Augustine. Firing times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

Professionals will be speaking about Florida native plants and how to use them in your landscape. A special topic this year features a talk by Emily Montgomery, Coastal Training Program Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve on natiev and non-native plants along our coastal areas and their importance. Also, Fish & Wildlife Officers will provide a very entertaining presentation about some of our native wildlife species.

Admission is $15 per person which includes light morning refreshments, all seminars and a boxed lunch.

Representatives from Flagler County Master Gardeners, Full Moon Natives, Hammock Gardens, Paradise Landscaping and FNPS Paw-Paw Chapter will be on site with lots of plants, books and garden items for you to purchase throughout the day! This workshop will be conducted by Paul Ladnier and is designed to help the student develop a natural way of drawing the unclothed human figure with emphasis on accurate, naturalistic interpretations. It will help the student learn to see, understand and accurately interpret the figure. In studio drawing sessions with live models, attendees, through a variety of exercises, will explore form, shape, contour, value, line, mass and anatomy, as well as a variety of drawing techniques. The instructor will give demonstrations and explanations of procedures. Model fee will be paid by participants.

IPR is holding three national showcases (Canal Room in NYC, Viper Room in Los Angeles, and Cafe Eleven in Saint Augustine) to premiere it’s compilation CD “Njagala ennyimba – Songs for the Invisible Children.” Included on the CD are new songs by Chris Barron (Spin Doctors), Ellen Foley, American Idol’s Alaina Alexander, Travis Tooke (For Squirrels, Subrosa), Larry Kirwan (Black 47), Aaron Dugan (Matisyahu), and others.

Each site offers programs and activities; The Castillo de San Marcos from 9am – 11am, Fort Mose from 11am – 1pm, the Fountain of Youth from 1pm – 3pm, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse from 3pm – 5pm. Fort Mose will offer a guided program at 11am and self guided activities from 12pm -1pm. Bring the family and discover the courageous story of Fort Mose. No reservation is required.

Second Saturday Art Walk at Bartram Walk

Bridging the cultural gap between St. Augustine and Jacksonville, the public is invited to the inaugural Second Saturday Art Walk at Bartram Walk on Saturday, November 14 from 3-7p.m.

The exhibition will feature more than 40 artists from the First Coast, with a unique intergenerational aspect which includes senior and student artists.  The oldest active artist on exhibit is over 97 years old.
 
The former Stellar's Gallery will serve as the art hub, with art also exhibited throughout the shops of Bartram Walk.  There will be live music and a book signing with Stetson Kennedy, award winning author and human rights activist.

Bartram Walk is located on the corner of SR 12 and Race Track Road in the heart of St. Johns community.  The date for the next artwalk will be on December 12, 2009.

The Second Saturday Art Walk is the result of the work of the Northwest Arts Advocacy, a division of the St. Johns Cultural Council.  They are dedicated to bringing art and cultural activities to northwest St. Johns County.
