The Really, Really, Really Late Show at UNF
November 15 2009 Sunday
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Event Type: Film
Cost: $5
“The Really, Really, Really Late Show” a 60 minute film created by children diagnosed on the autism spectrum at a local film camp, will make its premiere showing at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the University of North Florida Student Union Auditorium, which is located on the second floor in Building 58W, across from the UNF Arena.
The event is open to the public and weekend parking is free. Please RSVP to get tickets at www.healautismnow.org. A $5 donation is suggested and can be made at the event.
For the second consecutive year, Director Joey Travolta (brother of actor John Travolta) has come to Jacksonville with a team of film professionals to work with the HEAL Film Camp and FilmLab Productions in collaboration with UNF’s College of Education and Human Services.
This year’s theme, “The Really Really Really Late Show” is a spoof based on late night television talk shows. The film documents the behind-the-scenes experiences of the 50 campers, ages 10 to 17, as they act, write, produce and direct a film of their own.
Highlights include a segment about Project Chance. showing the importance of service dogs specifically trained to work with children on the autism spectrum. The film also includes a commercial for Mario's Pizza in Jacksonville Beach, and lots of fun vignettes that give viewers a chance to see how successful programs like this one can make a difference in the lives of children with autism.
The camp was sponsored by MDI Holdings Inc., the HEAL Foundation (Healing Every Autistic Life), a local non-profit organization, UNF and a number of community supporters. As a result of donations by the sponsors, the film camp was offered at no charge to families. Campers were nominated last spring by teachers and therapists in Duval and St. Johns counties.
