About Marineland Marineland’s original steel oceanariums were the first structures of their type in the world and were built to house and display multiple species of marine life, replicating the variety of life to be found off the coast of northeast Florida. Marineland continues its tradition of creating state of the art facilities with the Dolphin Conservation Center. Today guests are able to view, interact, and even swim with dolphins from around and within their habitat,. Efforts in the disciplines of education and research are shared, as guests view educational signage placed throughout the facility or are introduced to the animals via interactive encounters. In both cases the plights and challenges facing wild dolphins are key messages conveyed to inspire the general public to become informed and active in the conservation of marine animals and their natural environments.

16th Annual Nights of Lights starts with Light-Up! Night--- The Annual Holiday Event Starts Saturday, November 21
When the Nights of Lights begins
its 16th year on Saturday, November 21, it will continue what has
become an evening of traditions in this city of age-old traditions,
especially for Light-Up! Night.
Annual holiday event starts Saturday, November 21 @ 6:30pm
When the Nights of Lights begins its 16th year on Saturday, November 21, it will continue what
has become an evening of traditions in this city of age-old traditions,
especially for Light-Up! Night.
The city’s historic Plaza de la Constitución is the setting for the Light-Up! Night ceremonies including the dramatic “flipping of the switch” to kick off
the 10-week long Nights of Lights. St. Augustine Mayor Joe Boles will
continue the tradition year of inviting one of the city’s past Mayors
to accept the honor of lighting the city for the start of the Nights of Lights.
The
festivities begin at 4:00pm with a spirited holiday performance by
Showtime USA. The high energy, fun filled singing and dancing troupe
will perform under the King’s Balcony of Government House at the west
end of the Plaza.
Then at 5:30pm, the All
Star Orchestra returns for an encore performance after an outstanding
performance last year. The popular 20-piece band, performing from the
Gazebo, will fill the Plaza with great swing music and big band sounds
all in grand holiday style.
Light-Up! begins at 6:30pm when Mayor Boles officially opens the ceremonies from
the King’s Balcony at Government House followed by the flipping of the
switch from the Gazebo, first for the decorated tree and then to light
the city.
The thousands gathered in the Plaza
will be asked for their assistance in the lighting. With onlookers of
all ages eagerly waiting, the countdown begins: "10…9…8…." Then, as all
eyes turn towards the ancient oak canopy over the Plaza and the
fanciful spires of the City’s skyline, the moment arrives: "3…2…1!"
Instantly, over two million white lights fill St. Augustine's every
corner with brilliant and magical holiday sparkle, transforming the
Nation's Oldest City into an enchanted city of light.
Once
the lights are on, it’s time to enjoy downtown St. Augustine. With its
narrow Old World streets filled with the glow of holiday lights, there
is no better opportunity to stroll casually, stopping for dinner or
dessert and of course some early holiday shopping.

Family Fun Day at Faver-Dykes State Park
November 21 2009 Saturday
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Event Type: Parks_Recreation
Cost: free
The Friends of Faver-Dykes State Park invite the public to a Family Fun Day, Saturday, November 21, from 2 to 5 pm. The Park is on Faver-Dykes Road, off U.S. 1 South, just north of the I 95 interchange.
Given to the people of Florida by the late Hiram Faver, Faver-Dykes State Park is one of the newest parks. Canoes and kayaks can be rented to explore pristine Pellicer Creek bordering the Park. Overnight campsites are available, as are picnic pavillions, a playground, fire pits and a boat ramp. Deer, bobcat, gopher tortoise and other native wildlife may be seen along the nature trail, while Eagles, osprey and many other birds can be seen year ‘round, especially during migration. Hiram Faver intended his gift to become a piece of old Florida, as it was before Pedro Menendez founded St. Augustine. To that end, Park Rangers have been working hard to remove non-native plants in order to encourage growth of native species.
The Friends of Faver-Dykes Park encourage everyone to come to this event to learn more about this little-known gem of the Florida Park system, and see firsthand its natural beauty. There will be boat tours of Pellicer Creek, featuring talks about its ecology, and wagon rides through the park’s woodland. There will also be a Native American program, demonstrating how the Timucuan Indians lived more than 500 years ago, and a birding program.
The Friends of Faver-Dykes State Park will explain the importance of citizen service organizations, such as the Friends, especially in these hard economic times. Friends groups provide additional money above and beyond that budgeted by the State, as well as volunteers to help the Park staff. Benefits of joining the group include 12 free admissions to Faver-Dykes State Park during the year, discounts on participating kayak tours, invitations to special events and social gatherings, and, perhaps most important, the chance to participate in the preservation and enhancement of Faver-Dykes Park.
Refreshments will be available and door prizes will be given. First prize will be a 1-year pass to the Florida State Park system, a $120 value. The Park entry fee will be waived for everyone attending the Family Fun Day.
