Elvis Perkins

Known for a wide range of dynamics and eclectic instrumentation, they
have frequently drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Neutral Milk Hotel,
Buddy Holly and The Band. In writing, Perkins prefers the poetic to the
polemical; his lyrics often have a whimsical quality, their melancholy
aspects counterbalanced with an undercurrent of hope. He repeatedly
returns to images of sleep and dreams and flight, as if we might all
wake up at once and find ourselves in a far better place.

Help Yourself to Fine Dining while Helping Care for Injured Wildlife! The HAWKE Annual “Dinner for the Birds” set for Friday, November 6th, 2009
HAWKE, the Humane Association of Wildlife Care and Education, Inc. announces the 12th annual "Dinner for the Birds" to benefit HAWKE's mission of wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and environmental education. The dinner will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 6th, 2009 in the private upstairs dining room of the famous Raintree Restaurant on San Marco Blvd. in St. Augustine, FL. In addition to the dinner, a "birds of prey" demonstration featuring "Hedwig" the Great Horned Owl, "Barney" the Barred owl and "Twiggy" the screech owl, some of HAWKE's permanent residents, will be given by HAWKE Curator and President Melanie Cain-Stage.
HAWKE depends on fund raisers and memberships to support the rescue and rehabilitation of hundreds of injured wild birds, mammals and reptiles each year with the goal of releasing healthy wildlife back to their natural habitat. There is no state or federal funding for wildlife rehabilitation and many centers in NE Florida have closed or are no longer accepting patients, so fundraisers like the Dinner for the Birds are critical for HAWKE's mission. Raintree owner Lorna MacDonald and General Manager Christopher Cantabene graciously host this annual event to show their support for wildlife rehabilitation.
The award-winning Raintree Restaurant, one of North Florida’s finest restaurants, will offer the following spectacular selection: Margarita Bruschetta Mixed Baby Green Salad Served with Sesame Soy Shrimp and Calamari Chicken Zingara - baked chicken breast, tarragon. port wine, topped with Prosciutto ham and Provolone cheese. Served with seasonal vegetables Bourbon Street Bread Pudding - served with vanilla ice cream and caramel Complimentary tea or coffee and a cash bar available for alcoholic beverages
The dinner is limited to 55 guests and has historically sold out very quickly, so call 904-692-1777 to check on availability and to make reservations. The donation of $65.00 per person includes gratuity and directly supports HAWKE's mission of rescuing and caring for injured wildlife in our area. Advance payment with reservations are required (no walk-up seating will be available) and a vegetarian dinner is available if requested with reservation. Your reservation must be confirmed by calling Melanie Stage at 904-692-1777 and sending a check to HAWKE Inc PO BOX 188 Elkton, FL 32033. You can also reserve your seat from the HAWKE website, www.hawkewildlife.org.
This is one of the rare opportunities you have during the year to make a needed contribution to a worthy cause and enjoy some of St. Augustine’s finest cuisine at the same time.
For more information on the dinner, please call 904-692-1777 or visit the HAWKE website at www.hawkewildlife.org.
