Simple and Direct: Small-Panel Oil Painting for Traveling Artists Instructor: World Traveler, Artist Jim Mott www.jimmott.com
November 7 Saturday - 10am to 2pm All skill levels Whether you're a traveling artist who wants to use oils or just trying to fit oil painting into a busy life, there are several techniques that will enable you to work more efficiently, effectively, and with greater freedom. Modern day itinerant artist Jim Mott will share an approach to oil painting honed during his many Itinerant Artist Project trips, "trading art for hospitality across the USA." In seven months on the road, Mott has done over 350 small-panel oil paintings of the American landscape, working on colored gesso ground, without easel, solvents, or special mediums. His expressive, small-panel paintings also reflect a philosophical preference for uncluttered engagement with his subject matter. American Road Artist Jim Mott at the CCPVB
November 07 2009 Saturday
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Event Type: Art
Cost: $45-65
Modern day itinerant artist Jim Mott will be in town the weekend of November 7th to share his unique perspective on art, some stories from the road, and painting techniques developed over 30,000 miles of art road trips around the USA.
"Simple and Direct - Oil Painting for Artists on the Go" is the name of the workshop. You don't have to be a traveling painter to benefit from the presentation. Anyone who's having trouble finding enough time to do creative work will find inspiration, encouragement, and concrete methods for making the most of even short breaks. And you might want to come just for the discussion of life as a road artist.
Since beginning his Itinerant Artist Project in 2000 - "exchanging art for hospitality across the USA" - Mott has arranged to live by his art and without money for about one month a year: traveling the country, staying mostly with strangers, and painting over 400 small-format oil landscapes along the way. His unique experiences include paying a speeding fine in Montana with artwork.
Mott and his Itinerant Artist Project have been featured in American Artist Magazine and on the NBC Today Show. He has written a number of articles for the Daniel Smith Catalogue on painting strategies and methods. The workshop will include technical demonstrations, painting time for participants, and an informal exhibition of several paintings he plans to do in St. Augustine in the days before the workshop. Registration ends October 30,2009. call 280-0614 or register at www.ccpvb.org ccpvb members: $45 non-members:$65
