The Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center (LMCC) is hosting a Little Satchmo Documentary Screening on Friday, April 26, 2024. Following the internationally-acclaimed, Emmy-winning documentary screening, there will be a virtual Q & A with Louis Armstrong’s daughter, Sharon Preston-Folta.
To the world, Louis Armstrong is iconic — a symbol of musical genius, unparalleled success, and unassailable character. To Sharon, he was simply Dad.
The internationally-acclaimed documentary is based on Preston-Folta’s memoir of the same title. It details how Sharon, the product of a two-decade love affair between Satchmo and Harlem dancer Lucille ‘Sweets’ Preston, had no option but to harbor and conceal her identity for decades before making it public. In addition to complex themes of race, father/daughterhood, family, identity, and single-parent households, the story resonates on topics of finding one’s voice, family secrets, and relationships with fathers.
Door Open 5:30pm | Screening 6:00pm
Tickets: $15.00
Concessions will be sold at the screening. Parking is available for free at the front and back of the building and also paid parking across the street.
