Film Screening at The Waterworks

The St. Augustine Film Society presents the “Honeyland” Film Screening at the Waterworks.

When: Friday, May 23, 2025 at 7:00pm

About the Film

2019 Documentary film directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov

The film follows Hatidze Muratova, one of the last wild beekeepers in North Macedonia. Living in an isolated mountain village without electricity or running water, Hatidze carefully harvests honey following the ancient rule: “Take half, leave half” – ensuring the bees’ survival and sustainable honey production.

The film’s peaceful rhythm is disrupted when a nomadic family with seven children moves in nearby. The patriarch, Hussein, sees opportunity in beekeeping but ignores Hatidze’s sustainable methods in favor of quick profits. This decision triggers a conflict that threatens not only Hatidze’s livelihood but the delicate natural balance she has maintained with her bees.
