St Augustine, St. Johns County, Florida

I95 Lane Closures and Detours January 20, 2023 to January 21, 2023

As part of an emergency construction contract to replace the County Road 214 overpass beam at I-95 southbound, motorists can expect lane closures and detours in the area throughout the upcoming weekend for demolition, beam installation, and deck construction.

On the nights of Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21, starting at 8 p.m., motorists can expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound at CR 214. At 10 p.m., crews will implement a double lane closure on I-95 southbound at CR 214. From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., I-95 southbound will be closed at State Road 16, with drivers being detoured via SR 16 east to U.S. 1 south to SR 207 south to reconnect with I-95 southbound (map below).

On CR 214, one-lane, two-way traffic over I-95 will be maintained throughout construction. Nightly detours of CR 214 will be permitted between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

St. Augustine, Florida

The Florida Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin improvements to the Hospital Creek Bridge located on State Road A1A just west of the Vilano Bridge starting Monday, August 31, weather and schedule permitting.
The improvements to the bridge will include deck and joint repair work, concrete beam repairs, cathodic protection for piles and bent caps and other miscellaneous work items.
Lane closures are not allowed Monday through Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. To safely complete work underneath the bridge, intermittent bridge closures lasting approximately 30 minutes will be necessary. The bridge will reopen to allow emergency response vehicles to pass through when needed.
Southern Road and Bridge, LLC. is projected to complete the $1.2 million bridge rehabilitation improvement project in late 2021, unforeseen circumstances permitting. St. Johns – As part of a St. Johns County project to construct the new State Road 313 intersection at U.S. 1, the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 between Binninger Drive and St. Augustine Road will be temporarily closed for roadway reconstruction work starting today. The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 at St. Augustine Road will be diverted around the work area and shifted into a portion of the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 until the reconstruction work is completed in late December, weather and schedule permitting.

St. Augustine, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will temporarily close the entrance and exit ramps at State Road 206, the I-95 southbound rest area (mile marker 303) and U.S. 1 over the next week, weather and schedule permitting. These brief overnight rolling closures will allow crews to safely mill and resurface the right lane of I-95 southbound within the project area. Electronic message boards will alert drivers of the closure. Drivers are encouraged to use FL511.com and plan ahead.

State Road 206:

The I-95 southbound State Road 206 entrance and exit ramps are expected to be closed for approximately four hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday, June 7 and Monday, June 8. As shown in the map below, drivers attempting to exit from I-95 southbound onto State Road 206 will be detoured south to the U.S. 1 exit onto I-95 northbound, where they can exit onto State Road 206.Drivers attempting to enter I-95 southbound from State Road 206 will be detoured onto I-95 northbound to the SR 207 exit, where they can access I-95 southbound.

I-95 Southbound Rest Area:

The ramps to the I-95 southbound rest area south of State Road 206 (mile marker 303) is expected to be temporarily closed for approximately four hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9. The next rest area is located 76 miles south of the closure at mile marker 227.

I-95 Northbound Rest Area:

The ramps to the I-95 northbound rest area south of State Road 206 (mile marker 302) are expected to be temporarily closed for approximately four hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, weather and schedule permitting. The next rest area is located 29 miles north of the closure at mile marker 331.

The work is part of FDOT’s I-95 resurfacing project in St. Johns County, which consists of milling and resurfacing both directions of I-95 from the Flagler County line to just south of State Road 207, including the interstate entrance and exit ramps for State Road 206 and U.S. 1.

Hubbard Construction is expected to complete the $22.6 million project in fall 2022, weather and schedule permitting.

U.S. 1:

The I-95 southbound U.S. 1 entrance and exit ramps are expected to be temporarily closed for approximately four hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11. As shown in the map below, drivers attempting to exit I-95 southbound at U.S. 1 will be detoured south to Matanzas Woods Parkway to I-95 northbound, where they can exit onto U.S. 1. Drivers attempting to enter I-95 southbound from U.S. 1 will be detoured onto I-95 northbound to State Road 206, where they can access I-95 southbound.

Both projects expected to be completed in Fall of 2022.

FDOT Begins I-95 Resurfacing Project in St. Johns County

St. Augustine, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation has started work on a milling and resurfacing project on I-95 from the Flagler County line to just south of State Road 207 (13 miles).

During this project, crews will mill and resurface the existing three-lane northbound and southbound roadway of I-95 from the Flagler County line to just south of State Road 207, including the interstate entry and exit ramps for State Road 206 and U.S. 1. Work also includes resurfacing the parking lot and interstate entry and exit ramps at the I-95 northbound and southbound rest areas within the project corridor.

Temporary lane closures will be permitted Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the project. In periods of lower traffic volumes, lane closure restrictions may be adjusted to allow for the acceleration of construction. Every effort will be made to minimize the impact to traffic flow in the construction zone. Hubbard Construction was awarded this $22.58 million project in February 2020.

Completion expected in Fall of 2022.

West 5th Street Sewer Extension Project – City of St. Augustine

The City is hard at work on the West 5th Street Sewer Extension Project, which will connect existing homes to gravity sewer and eliminate septic tanks that contribute to deterioration of groundwater quality. This project will install sewer lines to 25 houses over a three block area over the next year.
The project is in coordination with West Augustine CRA Steering Committee and is partially funded by state grant funds.
