A Classic Theatre Presents Pen Pals

Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances performances of Butterflies Are Free have been replaced with Pen Pals.

About the Play

by Michael Griffo | Directed by Grace Reed

In our age of digital communication via text and email, having friends in far away places is not unusual. What makes this story remarkable is these women forged a life-long friendship via postal correspondence, having never met.

This is the extraordinary tale of two friends (based on a true story) that unfolds over decades. Two 14-year old girls – Bernie is in New Jersey, Mags is in England – are assigned to be pen pals for a school assignment. They continue being pen pals, sharing their deepest thoughts and dreams, being there for each other through life’s joyous moments and most difficult struggles.

Witness the journey of their lifetime in their own words.
