Documentary Screening – From Novel to Movie: The Yearling in Florida
The Waterworks is hosting a Documentary Screening of ‘From Novel to Movie: The Yearling in Florida’ in celebration of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings’s 128th birthday. Rawlings, a Pullitzer prize-winner, was author of numerous novels and short stories including The Yearling and Cross Creek.
Several of Rawlings’ works have been adapted for film, with a 1946 version of The Yearling receiving the greatest acclaim. The Yearling received the 1947 Oscar Awards for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography and was nominated for Best Picture. Actor Gregory Peck was awarded the 1947 Golden Globe Award as Best Actor.
The documentary is produced by Donna Green-Townsend and Kathlyne Walkup Sheppard. It shares oral histories from some of the actors and stand-ins who were featured in the classic coming-of-age story about a rural Florida family. And, includes historic behind-the-scenes video and photography obtained from the descendants of Gregory Peck.
