The Historic St. Augustine Research Institute presents speaker Susan Richbourg Parker, Ph.D. on March 14, 2024 at 7:00pm. She will present St. Augustine Revives its Spanish Past: The 1924 Visit to Avilés at the Governor’s House Cultural Center and Museum.

Dr. Parker tells the story of the City of St. Augustine’s representatives who traveled by ocean liner in 1924 to visit our Sister City of Avilés, Spain as part of an official American delegation to visit the Kingdom of Spain following the signing of the Treaty of Paris and the end of the Spanish-American War. This visit is often considered the start of our sister city relationship with Avilés, Spain.
