The Nao Trinidad is due to arrive in St. Augustine on Friday, February 2, 2024 as part of the 2024 celebration of the relationship between St. Augustine and Avilés, Spain. Tours are tentatively scheduled to begin on the same day at 11:00am barring any unforeseen circumstances. The ship will remain in port through the end of April (also tentative) with tours from 10:00am-7:00pm.
Flagship of the famous navigator Ferdinand Magellan, the vessel is a 93-foot replica of the Magellan-Elcano Expedition that led to the first circumnavigation of the Earth, confirming for the first time that the Earth is round. The ship boasts three masts and a bowsprit and is built of African hardwood and pinewood.
While docked at the St. Augustine Municipal Marina, the floating museum will be open for guided and self-guided tours. That includes the ships’ four decks, complete with information panels relating the history of the ship and the experience of Spanish sailors over 500 years ago.
Previously the Trinidad was outfitted as a replica of Christopher Columbus’ Santa Maria. It has been renamed and now includes the Magellan-related exhibits.
