They Came, They Survived, They Cooked: A Spotlight on Menorcan History & Cuisine
Join us for an enriching exploration of Menorcan culture and cuisine presented by Dr. Ann Browning Masters, City of St. Augustine Poet Laureate and Author. Dr. Masters is a St. Augustine native and 12th generation Floridian and she has deep roots in St. Augustine’s diverse history. Her background as a descendant of both Spanish settlers from Florida’s First Spanish Period and Menorcan colonists makes her uniquely qualified to tell the story of the Menorcan people.
When: Tuesday, June 10, 2025 — 5:30pm-6:30pm
Where: The Waterworks
Dr. Masters will share insights into the journey from the Mediterranean island of Menorca to the shores of St. Augustine in the 18th century. And, how the Menorcans preserved their heritage through language, customs, and—most notably—through their distinctive cuisine.
Combining captivating storytelling, cultural insight, and an introduction to Menorcan dishes, this program will be a perfect for history buffs, food lovers, and anyone interested in learning more about the vibrant multicultural heritage of St. Augustine.
